Boston, MA– Last night approximately 200 people converged in a protest of solidarity with Gaza, in reaction to Israel’s recent attacks on Palestine. About 25 pro-Israel protesters came as part of a counteraction. The march, which started at Copley, ended outside the Israeli Consulate on Park Plaza in Boston. Tensions were high, but there were no arrests and the action remained non-violent.
The dramatic increase in fighting between the Israelis and Palestinians began after Israel assassinated Ahmed al-Jabari on Wednesday through an air strike. Al-Jabari was the head of the military wing of Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist political party.
After the assassination, militants in Gaza responded by launching hundreds of rockets into Israel, to which the Israeli military responded by launching hundreds of air strikes against the territory. At least 19 Palestinians, including seven militants and 12 civilians, including six children and a pregnant woman, have been killed since Wednesday, along with three Israeli civilians.
