5pm WED Democratize or Destroy? How should we think about money, finance, and corporations?
Our economy seems to be ruled by fictions – money, credit, corporations. One response is to do away with these fictions – return to the gold standard, eliminate corporate personhood. But another response is to democratize them. This class is about trying to think about how and whether we can democratize these economic practices and institutions – for instance by nationalizing banks, changing finance regulations, debt laws, and even worker-controlled firms. Our Labor Day: Importance and Tactics of Building a Worker’s Party
Wednesday, October 12 • 3:00 – 6:00pm
Unions and workers have contributed millions of dollars to Democrat politicians only to have these same politicians revoke their right to collectively bargain over things like health care. Labor is coerced into lobbying with millions of more dollars taken from the workers to beg for mercy. With this infrastructure, it is possible to build a workers party with candidates who are recallable by the constituency who voted for them.
All FSU classes meet at the Soap Box on Atlantic Ave, Dewey Square, South Station. Also, look for posts on Facebook-FSU and on our ‘calendar’ at OccupyBoston.com
